Summer Reading: Activities & Prizes

Hours Read

Last year, participants read 1,181 hours.

Miss Deb is going to challenge you this year? Do you think you an read 1,200 hours? It is only 19 hours more!!!

Are you up to the task?

For every hour read, participants will receive a sticker for their wall chart hanging in the library. 

For every five hours read, they will receive a leaf to start filling in our tree that will be on display for all to see throughout the summer.

For every 10 hours, participants will receive a special item to go either in or around the tree that will designate them as a “Super Reader”. They will also receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a special prize – TBD (i.e. 30 hours read – 3 leaves & 3 raffle tickets).

Plant a seed, read Library BINGO

Receive a free book for every 2 Bingos you get. You could earn up to 6 free books.

A blackout Bingo (cover entire sheet) you earn 6 free books and a raffle ticket for a chance to win a special prize – TBD.

ABCDEFG…Can you name the food for me? Fruits and vegetables only! Can you find a fruit or vegetable that starts with each letter of the alphabet?

Fill in at least 15 and return this sheet to Miss Deb to earn a free book!


ABC’s of reading

*Please note that this activity is for Grades 3 and Up*

Write a book title that starts with that letter of the alphabet and includes a SPECIFIC FOOD. For example, The Gingerbread Girl could be an answer for “G.” 

Fill in at least 15 titles and return this sheet to Miss Deb to earn a free book!


Simon Fairfield Public Library Scavenger Hunt

This summer, we will be placing illustrations from the featured artists of “Plant a Seed, Read.” Every two weeks, six illustrations will be placed in the Children’s section of the library. By the end of the six weeks, will you be able to find all eighteen illustrations?

Find all 18 and return to Miss Deb for a free book.


How MANY KERNELS OF CORN?

This year’s estimation jar contains Popcorn Kernels (don’t worry, we made it a much smaller container this year!) How many kernels of corn do you think are in the jar?

Closest to, will WIN a fresh bag of popcorn and seasoning. Don’t worry parents, you have a chance to win your own bag of popcorn, you get to guess as well!
