Welcome to Summer Reading

Children are invited to join the Douglas Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and attend the fun events we are planning for children ages 18 months to 12 years. This summer’s theme is “Plant a Seed, Read.” Plant a Seed, Read is rooted in the concept of farm to table.  A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds.  Both food and stories connect us to our family, culture, economy, and ecology.  The idea of this theme looks at the library as a community table where, instead of food, we feast on ideas.

Once again, we will be offering six different programs that are free, open to children of all ages, and will run from July 8 to July 12. Please see our schedule here.

And as always, Summer Storytime for 18 months to age five will also be taking place, beginning July 6th (please contact Miss Deb directly to register for storytime at dsoderman@cwmars.org or 508-476-2695).

Along with our programs, fun activities and prizes are offered this summer to motivate children to discover the personal joy of reading and to showcase the reading achievements of our community’s young people. You can learn more about those activities here.

On the last day of our program, we will celebrate another successful summer reading with an Ice Cream Social and Prize Giveaway for all participants. All those who have been a part of our program are invited to join us from 2:00-3:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12th.

Please come into the library to register for the 2026 Plant a Seed, Read! We can’t wait to see you!

“Plant a Seed, Read” is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
