Research Database Alternatives

This is a repost from June 26, 2025:

Beginning July 1, our research database offerings will be significantly reduced due to the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences. We will retain access to Britannica, Academic OneFile, Gale’s Opposing Viewpoints, and PebbleGo, but we are losing all the non-scholastic resources. I’m not writing to lament our losses, though, but to point out some useful alternatives:

  • If you are looking for job support or career resources, MassHire is a state agency that can offer guidance, assistance, and job listings. If you used our Peterson’s Career resources, this is the closest thing to them.
  • For those who used our Legal Forms database, The Massachusetts Trial Court Law Libraries offer a free “ask-a-law-librarian” service as well as a document delivery service.
  • The Boston Public Library e-card, for which every state resident is eligible, gives you access to Boston’s digital resources–including the databases! They always purchase more than the state provides at baseline. So for all research except local history, it now makes more sense to go to BPL’s research page than our own.

I hope you find these useful!
