This might seem a like a step back in time, but we’re bringing back a dedicated catalog computer that you can use to look up material and place holds. The transition to laptops for public access computing freed up some old hardware that we’ve turned into a kiosk for collection browsing. Instances where this might be useful include:
-You just want to know if we have a book available but all the staff are busy helping other patrons.
-You want to look up a topic discretely without talking to librarians about it.
-Gail is looking especially grumpy and you’d rather interact with the computer.
-You are a bookish introvert and don’t want to interact with the humans behind the desk beyond handing them your card and your books and exchanging a few short grunts.
